The allure of online classes is easy to understand. Study in your PJs, never be late for class, or hold down a nine-to-five job while going to school. You control when you do classwork and you control when you study. Unfortunately, it’s a lot harder to find motivation to study when you’re in an online class. You’ve got to change your methods. Here are some tips for studying for an online class.

Review regularly.
We know you’ve heard this tip a thousand times, but how often do you actually do it? Never? It may be impossible for you to review every day, so make it a habit of reviewing every other day or every two days. The reason this is so essential in online classes is because you won’t have a live class to attend three times a week. You’re on your own, and you’ve got to keep the material fresh and active in your head. If you’re really struggling with the class, make the commitment to review every day. You don’t want to be faced with a huge cramfest right before a major exam.

Take neat notes.
It doesn’t matter if your handwriting is atrocious (you can type your notes instead). Your notes need to be orderly and aesthetically pleasing for you to want to study them. Be creative and use different colors or pictures. Make your notes inviting.

See if any of your online classmates live near you.
Reviewing with another person can do wonders in both motivating you and helping you remember certain information. If no one lives near you, start a review thread in your discussion board.

Studying for that big exam and you just can’t focus? Need a better way to organize your class materials? Looking for ways to increase your academic productivity so you’ll have more time to party? Whatever your reasons, here are some useful productivity tips and tricks to improve your academic life.

Evernote.
Evernote is a handy app for your smartphone or computer that easily organizes your notes. Clip a website as reference for a paper. Take a picture of your handwritten notes. Evernote’s picture-searching technology allows you to search writing in images, so you can easily search and find your notes on Macbeth or the Battle of Trafalgar. Take vocal memos (perfect if you’re an audio learner).

The Pomodoro Technique.
Time to study or work on a paper? Set a timer for 25 minutes. When it dings, take a five minute break. After your fourth 25-minute block, take a 15 minute break. Welcome to the Pomodoro Technique, a productivity tool invented by Francesco Cirillo. The human brain can’t focus effectively for long chunks of time, so taking breaks help break up longer projects. Plus, that five minute break acts like a reward to look forward to while you’re typing away on your paper. Hold off on checking Twitter or Facebook until the timer dings and you’ll notice a major increase in productivity.

Do Flash Cards While You Wait.
Turn your down time into productive study time. Make up flash cards and run through them on your commute or in the doctor office waiting room. This is especially helpful for vocabulary terms on an upcoming exam or foreign language classes.

Are you starting your very first online learning class? Congratulations– you’re taking full control of your higher education. Be forewarned that online learning classes put you in the pilot seat. You’ll need a higher discipline and self-motivation than you would in a traditional online learning class. Here are some tips for beginner students.

Research Your Professor.
Although there isn’t as much face-to-face interaction with your professor as you would find in a traditional class, your professor can make or break your class. Ask any classmates who they’d recommend for a particular class. Don’t know anyone? Get the insider scoop at review sites like RateMyProfessor.

Know Your Syllabus Like the Back of Your Hand.
The syllabus is your contract with the professor. You won’t have a professor to stand in front of the class and go over it. Know your syllabus. It will often contain day-by-day instructions or assignments as well as classroom policies and rules. Those due dates are much more likely to creep up on you in an online class. Set reminders for one week ahead for minor projects, two or three weeks ahead for major projects. If there’s anything you’re unclear about in the syllabus, email the professor right away.

Never Procrastinate.
Online courses don’t allow for it. If you’re not keeping up with the workload, you’ll drown. Cramfests and last-minute work sessions do not work for online courses. You’re the only one responsible for understanding the material and a large part of your online course will be spent teaching yourself. You can’t learn an entire semester in one night, so make sure you’re keeping up with the syllabus.

Online learning includes all types of teaching and learning. There are communication and information systems that serve as the media needed in order to implement this type of learning. The term “online learning” basically refers to classroom education that is acquired through the use of technology.

This type of learning where the network-enabled and computer transfer of knowledge and skills is utilized, processes and applications include digital collaboration, opportunities of virtual classroom, computer-based learning and Web-based learning. The content of the materials to be learned is sent through the Internet, satellite TV, video or audio tape, and extranet/intranet. This type of learning can be customized at the students own pace or it can be instructor led with media elements to include audio, animation, text, video streaming, and image.

By the year 2006 in the U.S., there were around 3.5 million students taking some type of online-learning within an institute of higher education. The Slogan Foundation reports state that the rise of participation in online learning was an average of 12 to 14% between the years of 2004 to 2009. By 2008, there were more that 25% of all post-secondary education students taking some type of online courses which increased in 2009 to 44%. The number of students taking online courses is expected to rise as much as 81 percent by the year 2014. There are many for-profit institutes of higher education that now offer online classes and the general consensus is that students are just as satisfied with this form of education as with the traditional classroom style.

This country has a unique and fascinating history in regards to our need and disire for education, which has played a significant role in the growth of this country. With discoveries in areas such as electricity, the telephone, medicine and more, opportunities to learn have been abundant and trying to find avenues to make learning more accessible and convenient has also been on the minds of many individuals.

Everything that has been discovered and invented in this society has also been improved upon. Without electricity, we would not be able operate computers and send email messages over the internet. The internet also gives us the ability stay in contact with long lost friends and family. Many people have used the internet as a source of employment through many lucrative and legitimate jobs available. However, one important area that has been useful with internet use is the ability to learn, online.

Learning has always been the foundation that makes us strive and grow and sometimes with a family and a full time occupation, the ability to continue learning is put on the back burner. However, with many online learning courses available, people are finding that they can work, live happily with their families, and gain the knowledge they need to advance in the workforce. The knowledge is out there, and with just a click of the computer mouse a person can learn how to conveniently gain an online education. This type of modern education can be challenging but for the determined individual who is able to juggle these areas in their schedule, it can work well.

We now live in a technology age that has made it possible to engage in activities that were not available to individuals 20 to 30 years ago. Individuals can send pictures and messages to each other via the internets, gain friends, and stay connected to the ones they love. One area of technology that has gained popularity in recent years is the ability to get an online-education.

Taking online courses gives a person a huge amount of flexibility where they have the ability to work full time and raise a family. Most times, students can take courses any time of the week at both daytime and nighttime hours. They usually have to do essays and research and complete assignments that can be customize to fit into their schedule. Many feel that the lack of supervision with this type of modern educational style can serve as a hindrance to education, but for the responsible, and dedicated individual, it can be an answer to prayer.

There is also the factor that a student taking online courses lacks access to their instructors but the only lack of interaction is usually face to face. All a student usually needs to do when they need to communicate with their instructor is type any question and concern into their computer and a responsible instructor should be able to provide feedback in a timely manner. This is particularly beneficial to the shy student who would not have asked a question in person, but with this type of technology, is now bold enough to get the answers they need.

Studying is studying, no matter what the subject matter, right? While in general that is true, specific subjects require different techniques. You would not, for instance, study a novel in the same way you would study a history text. Math is a procedural discipline. So if you want to get the most out of your math study time try using some of these math-specific tips.

An Everyday Routine

Math requires your active participation. That means that you must work on it every day and not wait until the day before the test to try to catch up. Do your homework every day. Math is cumulative, so the more you work at it, the more you understand.

Take Notes

Take notes in class. Copy the examples from the board. Write down the laws, methods, and ideas for the lesson and be sure you understand what they mean and how to implement them. If you are unsure, ask for help.

Show Your Work

When solving math problems, show your work. If necessary, number your steps, so the instructor can see how you arrived at your answer. This is for your benefit, because by showing your work the instructor can correct your method not just your answer. Work neatly, so you and your instructor can read it easily.

Learn From Your Mistakes

Use your corrected assignments and tests as tools for your future success. Rework the problems that you missed until you arrive at the correct answer. If you can’t get the correct answer, ask for help. Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and grow and ultimately be more successful.

Learning math can be easy if you remember that today’s skill builds on yesterday’s work. Successful math students devote time each day to building and retaining their math skills.

Education is expensive and time-consuming, so before you enroll and write that check for tuition, it is good idea to be sure you are at the right institution for your career and financial goals. One way to do that is to ask the following questions.

About the School

Is the school accredited? Accreditation is extremely important. If your school isn’t accredited your credits may not transfer to another school and employers may reject your degree.

How many students are currently enrolled and how many students graduate each year? The answer to this question tells you two things, first the size of the institution and the success of students. Generally speaking, 75 percent graduation rate is considered excellent.

Student to teacher ratio. Generally the lower the ratio, the higher the quality of the education. Look for schools with a low student/teacher ratio.

About Students

Hardware and software needs. What specific hardware and software will you need to complete your degree? It’s important to know before your enroll, if you need to upgrade your system or purchase software.

How do students and teachers communicate? How will your work be evaluated? Make sure that you understand the methods the teacher uses and that you are comfortable with them.

How do I get extra help if I need it? The amount of extra help an institution provides differs widely. Find out if the institution provides virtual office hours and tutoring services?

The more you know about your on-line college before enroll, the happier you will be with your choice. With so many accredited on-line schools to choose from, it is worth your time to thoroughly investigate all the possibilities.

For the busy professional who is seeking a graduate degree, on-line education is tailor-made to fit their career and lifestyle needs. A recent survey conducted by Onlinedegrees.org, show that students are looking to continue their education in four major fields:

Engineering

Healthcare

Education

Business

In addition to scheduling flexibility, students like the self-pacing aspects of online education.

Engineering

Engineering degrees offer successful candidates a financially secure future. Because of the hands on aspects of engineering, few undergraduate engineering degrees are offered online. Graduate level engineering degrees are more prevalent.

Healthcare

If you believe the experts, a job in health care is job security. So it’s no wonder that the interest in the healthcare field has skyrocketed in the last ten years. On-line colleges and universities offer healthcare degrees in nursing, pharmacy, medical assisting, nutrition, physical therapy, and medical billing. Some schools offer a combination of on-line, on-campus, and in-service training.

Education

Most on-line education degrees are for the graduate or post-graduate level. Educators who are looking to move into administrative or policy positions within the educational field find that an on-line degree will allow them the needed flexibility in the workplace.

Business

Business degrees are by far the most flexible. Students can choose from an associates, bachelors, graduate, or post-graduate degree from some fine institutions. In today’s highly competitive workplace, the MBA (Masters in Business Administration) has become the norm for mid-level managers.

If you are thinking about taking your career to the next level, then supplementing your education is a logical next step. Whether on-line or on-campus, your educational and career goals are within reach.

Cost of Postsecondary Education

Once you’ve decided to continue your education, the next logical step is determining what your education budget will be. The first step is to ask yourself some critical questions:

Will I need to continue to work while I go to school?

Is the school of choice within commuting distance or will I need to move?

How long does the educational program last and do I have enough resources to complete the program?

Once you have the answers to those questions you can begin to look at different types of postsecondary educational programs and the costs associated with each institution.

Online Colleges

Online colleges offer the student the greatest flexibility of scheduling. So if you are juggling a job, a family, and school, this might be the perfect solution. Tuition for online colleges is about $252 a credit hour.

Two-Year Colleges

Community colleges, technical schools, and trade schools, all fall within the category of two-year colleges. Tuition for these institutions begins at around $239 per credit hour. However, tuition costs vary greatly depending on the program. The more specialized the program, the higher the tuition. In addition, you’ll need to factor in the cost of commuting to class. Many two-year colleges offer evening and weekend classes that allow you to keep your full or part-time job while attending school.

Four-Year Colleges

If you live within commuting distance, a four-year public college is usually the most cost effective choice. Yearly resident tuition for a four-year public school runs between $5000 and $10000 per year. However, if you need to live on campus, the cost of dorms and food can easily run another $15,000.

Non-resident tuition at four-year public colleges average between $15,000 and $25,000.

Knowing what college options you have to meet your career goal is the first step in developing an educational plan for your future. The second step is to manage your financial resources effectively to get the most education for the fewest dollars.

On-line education is a reality. Students across the country and around the world can attend an accredited college or university without leaving their home. For students with families and full-time jobs, on-line education is often the only answer. Unfortunately with the abundance of on-line education offerings, it can be difficult to distinguish the legitimate schools from the scams.

Here are some signs that the program may not be legitimate.

Get a college degree for your life experience. Any school that offers you a degree based solely on your life and work experience is not legitimate. Some accredited schools, however, may offer you some credit for your life and work experience towards a degree. The accredited schools would then require course work to complete the degree.

Get your college degree in 30 days. No legitimate college, school, or university can guarantee you a degree, let alone in 30 days. If it sounds too good to be true. It is. Education takes time.

50% off tuition if you pay in thirty days. Legitimate schools have fixed costs. Tuition is based on course hours. Faculty salaries are fixed. Institutions that offer a huge discount for paying quickly are rarely legitimate.

The United States Department of Education hosts a list of accredited schools across the country. The schools on the list are accredited by nationally recognized accrediting agencies. Before you begin an online course of study, take the first step and check with the Department of Education to determine if the school is accredited.

More and more employers are requiring a college education for entry-level jobs. If you are one of the millions of Americans that are looking for work, you’ve run up against this door time and time again. Getting past that closed door requires a college education. Yet, the entrance competition for local and national colleges and universities is stiffer than ever and rising tuition is often out of reach for many students. One alternative to education at a brick and mortar institution is attending an on-line college or university.

Here are three reasons to consider:

Cost. Tuition at on-line colleges and universities is often less expensive than traditional institutions. This is due, largely, to a huge reduction in over-head. On-line universities don’t have dorms, grounds, sporting facilities, etc., to maintain, thus they can pass the savings on to the students in the form of lower tuition. In addition, students save the cost of commuting.

Flexibility and Pacing. On-line programs allow the student to flex their schedule around their other commitments, such as work and family. Many programs are self-paced, which means the student progresses as fast or as slow as needed to complete the program. For some students, this means they will be able to complete the coursework for their degree in less time than if they had attended a conventional program.

Networking. On-line programs connect students from around the country and around the world. In addition, on-line programs can and do facilitate guest lecturers and professors to enhance the student learning experience.

A college education is now within the reach of most Americans, particularly when you factor in the availability of on-line colleges and universities. On-line programs offer both, pay-as-you go and financial aid packages.

There is a new educational sheriff in town, and it called technology. The technology in classrooms today has created a learning environment for students that is hands down the best that our classrooms have ever seen. The technology allows students to be active participants in their education, and allows them an opportunity to take ownership of what they do with their work, how they learn, and how much they learn. This is an important aspect for education, as teachers strive to have children recognize and appreciate education. However, there is nothing more powerful than a new game, gizmos, or gadget to get kids interested in school again. Many students are under the impression that school is about fun and games, because the technology has made the modern classroom a mecca for thriving.

Some of the modern advancements that are helping students learn are the new computer programs that are available. The days of listening to lectures, or reading boring textbooks are over. Students are now able to get tutoring help via games and songs. This is all made possible by the many desktop and laptop computers that are stationary in each classroom. The other feature of the modern classroom is the Smart Board. This board allows teachers to instruct from any point in the classroom and can even allow students to take over and work with the class for a collaborative assignment. This would have been an unheard of challenge a decade ago. The other aspects are reading tablets. The day of heavy textbooks are gone, and now students read from an over sized PDA. This is saving districts valuable time and money, and students could not be happier. These also help to keep the classroom organized and neat, as there is no need for bulky books laying around the room anymore.

There are many course advantages for classes that are held online. For starters, the classes tend to be more accommodating which means for the busy student or individual, classes can be held during a time that works best for him or her. This also means that class work can be completed on a schedule that works best for the student. While there are some time frames in which to compete work, the general rule of thumb is that it just needs to be done in a certain amount of time, and within a window. For most online programs they allow you to work for a complete session on a course and they require that you submit for the course completion before the due date which is usually within six months.

The other advantages for online courses is that many of the course can be given assistance on a short notice and many do not require that there is any payment for tutoring services or learning materials. This means that the cost effectiveness of the course is exponentially better than that of a traditional class that could cost significantly more in the long run. The cost ration between the classes can range from a difference of nearly $500 dollars per class, and traditional classes do not even support the extra learning help without a fee. The learning materials for many of these classes can also cost hundreds of dollars, and all of this is done on a scheduled basis with many people struggling to find room in the classes. With online programs, the days of standing in line to get textbooks you dreaded carrying around are over. Welcome the new educational approach of allowing students to call their own shots.

So you’re starting college. Talk about a major life change! Whether you’re attending a traditional college campus or an online university, these will be some of the most formative years of your life. What you study, the friends you make and the experiences you have will shape your future. No pressure, right?

Really, it’s not. Relax, and enjoy your college years. For starters, you have to understand that college is not high school. What you did in high school, who you were friends with—none of that really matters any more. College is your chance to get a fresh start and explore what makes you who you are. Do you enjoy basketball but were never quite good enough to make your high school team? Join an intramural team at your school. Are you interested in art but could never fit the class into your high school schedule? Take an evening art class or join an art club. The options are unlimited. Look at online resources such as EarnMyDegree.com to learn more about your choices.

Beyond these experiences, college is your opportunity to prepare for the real world after graduation. That may seem serious and daunting, but think of it like this – there are very few experiences in life where you get to do a trial run before it really counts. Think of college as your trial run for life. The organizational skills you develop to keep track of your assignments will serve you well the rest of your life.

If you’re living away from home, you’ll also learn all those skills you need for daily living—things like laundry, cleaning and maybe even grocery shopping and cooking. These things may not sound like fun, but they are necessary. And of course, you’re going to college to learn. So go with an open mind and experience what might be the greatest joy of all – absorbing all that wonderful knowledge.

This seems to be the most appealing to students that are entering college and daydreaming of the jobs that they will one day have. The other benefits to have an education is simply that, to say that you are educated is a proud thing. Finally the other benefit to having a good and solid education is the fact that during the process you were able to grow as a person, as an independent thinker, as a member of society. This is by far the most rewarding aspect of education as this changes who you are as a person, and your ideologies. This means that who you were when you began college is not the same as who you are when you leave. For many, they are able to experience what is called a paradigm shift. This is when a persons thinking and belief systems change to accommodate a new process. This can be very exciting.

The phrase that was made popular by professors says that more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know. This is essentially what a major mental shift can do to a person. They realize through opening their eyes, and realizing certain facts that they really did not know much to begin with, and now they know even less. This can be an exhilarating realization, and for some help drive them to continue on with their education to fully indulge in all that there is to learn in life. While it is impossible to learn everything, many find the task to be a challenge, and therefore become life long learners. This is a fantastic state to be in, and aside from the employment benefits of being educated, many people find the personal development to be the greatest benefit of education.

Getting more out of your life can come in all different forms. You could go to the gym and pump up until you start to look like the Hulk. You could run around the track until your muscles pop out like an anatomy chart. You could go to the club and work on your game until Don Juan starts calling to ask you for advice. You could even go to business school and get yourself an MBA. While the last one might not sound as impressive as the other three, it’ll most likely get you more money than being buff, being lean or being a player will.

But while the other three basically just involve showing up, going to grad school for your MBA is a bit of an ordeal, just to get in. For instance, they have an entrance examination known as the GMAT. Luckily for those aspiring to get in and breeze right past the GMAT, there is a GMAT class online you can take, to prepare you for acing the test itself. After all, you’ll have plenty of work to do once you’re in all those challenging MBA courses. There’s really no sense in giving yourself any more difficulties than you’re already facing.

Just think of all the great things you can go on to accomplish with your business degree. You can get a great career, where you can afford to get into the best clubs (and work on your game). You’ll also be able to afford memberships to the best gyms (so you can turn your body into a work of art). And if that wasn’t good enough for you (you’re learning), you will also be able to look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I have a terminal degree. There are many people in the world who have not gone further with their business education than I have.”

We are all under the impression that the more education that we have, the better off we are, the more employable we are, and the more valuable we are. However, there are some career paths where having too much education can actually make getting a job harder to do. This is usually because employers are not ready to pay higher salary for higher education level for a college graduate that is still considered inexperienced. The cost involved in the training for a new graduate can be a lot for a company and combined with a high salary, it is not fiscally sound for the company. So here is what many college graduates and post-graduates do to avoid the problem.

This might not sound like what you want to hear, but may be necessary in a bad economy like the Great Recession. Many graduates do not include all of their education. This is especially true of teachers who have finished college with a Bachelors and Masters degree, but have never taught. Schools are always looking to save money, and teachers are paid on a scale that combines their education and years of experience. Schools know that new teachers have a lot to learn, and therefore are not willing to spend more for a teacher that has high education when they know the training for a new teacher with a regular Bachelors degree is going to require the same amount of attention. What many of these new employees do is keep quiet about the amount of education, and then about a year to two into their job, reveal the education. This would allow a candidate to be considered for higher pay, they would have established themselves, and also make them eligible for promotions based on higher education. While this is not the choice for many, students are not wanting to sacrifice their higher educational goals, and therefore are needing to find creative ways to have the job and the degree at the same time.

Modern education is a new term today that is all inclusive of mainstream classrooms and online supplemental. This also includes new technology in a classroom, like in the case of computer tablets replacing text books. This is a new phenomena and since technology is changing so quickly, and being incorporated into the classroom so quickly, many teachers are finding that they are in need of constant training to stay on top of all the changes occurring. This is not a bad thing, and in fact, test scores are proving that the new technology that is being promoted is drastically aiding students with special needs, higher education students, and help for average class work.

The modern class has taken a different shape since the days of overhead projectors and pull down white screens. Today, if there is a chalk board in a classroom, it is a sight to see because they simply are not present in today’s classes. Instead, they have been replaced with Smart boards. Smart boards looks like white screens, but you write on them through the use of tablet, and you can be anywhere in the room to do this. It looks like a giant computer on a wall, and teachers can access it using a laser pen, or the tablet. Students are not forgotten in this equation, as they are usually provided laptops in every class. Students can also access printers and from any room, and text books are looking like a thing of the past. With new gadgets like the Kindle, or Nook, students are able to download their textbooks, and use the tablets instead. The days of lugging huge science books are looking like another thing from the past. Another technologically savvy thing that you might see in a modern class these days are laser projectors. These projectors are based via WIFI and can accept a signal from any computer. This means that if there is a class project that is to be presented, students can do so from their seats, while transmitting their work onto the front of the class via the WIFI projector.

After four years of higher education, many graduates are lucky if their student loans are under $20,000, especially if they attended a private university. While you must know how you will afford your monthly payments, you should also consider the options that you have as a debt holder. Understanding what “debt consolidation” means, as well as “forbearance” and “deferment” will enable you to make an educated decision.

Debt Consolidation: Using a debt consolidation service can be a great option for students who have several loans from different lenders, as many students will if they took out a loan for more than one year of school. This can be a good option because it can cut your monthly payments in half, as well as make repayment easier by having all of your loans payable in one monthly payment. This option is much easier than juggling all your loans and remembering when to pay them during the month.

Deferment: A deferment means that your loan payments are suspended for a specified length of time. You may be granted a deferment if you are re-enrolling in school or have an economic hardship. For certain loans, you do not gain interest while the loan is deferred. If your loan is unsubsidized, you will still be responsible for the interest that accumulates during this time, and if this interest is not paid off, it can significantly increase the amount you owe.

Forbearance: Forbearance is similar to a deferment. It can suspend or reduce your loan payments for a length of time. A forbearance is available for those in financial difficulty who are not eligible for a deferment. There are more restrictions on this, however. A forbearance can only be given for a maximum of three years, and there is always interest accumulating, regardless of what kind of loan you have.

Understanding your options for repayment is a key way to becoming a responsible and successful graduate.

Online learning is the way to go for college education these days. It is cost effective, can be expedited, and allows students with complex personal lives to still have a quality education. With all things, however, there are always advantages and disadvantages. These aspects should be fully investigated before starting a new online program because many people feel surprised or quickly frustrated with their choice of schooling because they simply did not prepare themselves for the experience. The other aspect to this investigation, is to make sure that the school you have chosen is going to meet your needs as a student. If the accreditation isn’t present, or if the coursework is not sufficient, you could find yourself with a lot of useless education.

Two of the biggest advantages of online education is the flexibility and the cost. Many of the programs can be done in a much faster pace than that of a traditional college, and because of this, many students are able to save a lot of money because they simply are not in school that long. The other cost saver is that because there is no need for a professor to be present in a classroom, universities are able to negotiate wages, again saving the student money.

Some of the disadvantages of online learning is that if something goes wrong with your computer, you are stuck. There’s no one to go to, other the technical help desk for your school, and that could take days. The other aspect is whether or not the acceditation that the school has will be accepted. If is important that you check to make sure you company or state will accept the coursework. Finally, does the school that you are investigating have the right coursework you need in the program of choice. For instance, some states require a certain amount of coursework that is specific for a certification in teaching. If the program does not have the right amount of classes for that particular degree, you could find that you will need to have more classes, or simply find another school.

Everybody makes it seem like taking an online class is simply the easiest way to continue our education. That may very well be true for many people, but the truth is not everyone is well suited to the idea of online learning. Online learning takes a specific kind of student. One that is able to self motivate, self teach and who exhibits exemplary organizational skills. It is only with these skills that a student will successfully navigate an online class

The primary skill needed by those hoping to take an online class is that of self motivation. Almost all online classes are, at least a list degree, self-paced. This makes a critical that online students have the motivation to complete coursework, reading, reports and exams in a timely manner. Failing to do so means that it will be impossible to finish even one class. Self motivation is crucial for success online.

Students should also exhibit the ability to self teach. While it’s true that online courses utilize a variety of teaching methodologies, the truth is students must be able to comprehend reading material, lecture notes and other resources on their own. While all online classes have a professor or teacher that moderates them, the most successful students are very adept at processing information on their own.

Organization is a final skill that online students must master. This ties closely to the self motivation factor of online learning. Students must have the ability to organize their time in order to successfully complete all aspects of an online class.

The funny thing is most online classes are so user friendly and intuitive that most online students don’t have advanced knowledge of computers or the Internet. Instead the most successful online students are individuals with the drive, motivation and need to succeed in their online class.

The growing popularity of online classes has created a unique phenomenon among online students – the ability to self-pace a class. That sounds of a complicated process, but really a self-pace class is nothing more than a class in which the student has no finite period of time in which to complete its goals. While some self-paced classes do have an end date of sorts, most are truly self-paced allowing students to take as much time as they need to master the material.

This sounds like a rocking idea and in most cases it is; however, understanding the process of self-paced teaching and learning and mastering some organizational techniques is critical for students who hope to successfully complete one or more self-paced classes online.

Take for example an online English class. In this class the student must read four works of American Literature generate several reports on the material and pass eight different tests. The student has 16 weeks in which to complete the work. This is where the problem starts. It is so easy to say “I have plenty of time,” and leave their reading of the books off until week 15. Instead students must develop a logical plan that allows them to cover the material needed in a timely manner. It isn’t as easy as it sounds.

In fact, many students struggle with the idea of self-paced classes. Many have difficulty passing their first self-paced class. It’s a great idea take a minute at the beginning of a semester and set milestones for the class. Using our English class example, the student might want to determine that book one must be completed at the end of week two, book two at the end of week four and so on and so on.

Self-paced is just that – it’s about the student’s ability to set the pace for entire semester.

Most of the classes we see advertised online or on the television are for self-paced online learning. It is a great concept, especially for those who need flexibility in their schedule. That being said, most colleges and universities offer a different form of online learning, the guided class. Students who have the time to take this type of course often find them much simpler than traditional college classes to complete while still providing them with a structure.

What exactly is a guided class? A guided class is one which takes place online that takes the same form as the traditional college course. This typically means a structured class which closely follows the format and syllabus of traditional classes. Students have deadlines, online meetings and other requirements that ensure they will complete class by the semester.

Guided classes typically utilize some form of virtual classroom. This software allows instructors to provide students with lectures, presentation and other resources online. It can best be likened to experiencing a classroom setting from the comfort of your own home. Virtual classroom software is easy to use, a user friendly and very intuitive. It really is just like a classroom without the black board and fluorescent lighting.

Guided classes often require students to meet online at predetermined times. For those that do not require a lecture, guided courses rely on deadlines for assignments. The entire course is driven by clearly defined guidelines which functions as a syllabus.

The biggest difference between guided online courses and traditional college courses is where the class takes place. The guide in online course can be taken anywhere in the world while a traditional college class takes place in a classroom on campus.

Students who need the structure of the traditional classroom with the flexibility of learning from home should consider taking one or more guided online courses.

Many people mistakenly believe that the easiest way to pass a class is to take it online. For some reason there is a misconception about online classes. People believe the material covered it is not as difficult to grasp, the deadlines are easier to meet and the classes are, in general, just easier. The truth is online courses are every bit as difficult as a traditional college or university class. The difference is the manner in which they are taught and, in some cases, the amount of time the student has to complete the work.

Online courses were developed not to make things simpler for the student but to provide them with a degree of flexibility not seen in traditional college classes. This does not need the material covered in an online class is not the same material that would be covered in a traditional class. In fact many times grasping the material online is a bit more difficult because of the lack of interaction between the student and the professor. Its important remembers that online classes cover the same material of traditional courses.

So the question becomes how does one pass an online class? You do it just like you would pass a traditional class. Students must take the time to complete required readings, complete any homework assignments, studying lecture notes, review presentations, write reports and pass tests. Online classes aren’t that different from traditional classes.

Perhaps the single greatest thing in online student can do to ensure their success is to remember that they are indeed taking a college class. By developing a schedule and sticking to it, online students can ensure completion of their work in a timely manner. By taking a class in seriously as a traditional college class the student is more likely to be successful in their endeavor.

Today, finding an online class is not a difficult proposition. Watch TV for an hour and you will likely see at least one advertisement for an online college. Browse your favorite social media site and at least one banner ad will pop up prompting the viewer to ‘register now.’ The real question is how to find online classes that will teach students what they want to know.

Many students find the best success by working with a local community college. These institutions almost always have a growing catalogue of online courses for a student to choose from. This is particularly helpful for students interested in taking basic course subjects such as history or English. Your local community college is a great resource for finding ideal online courses for students who are just starting out.

Students who are interested in studying a particular subject, getting a certificate or simply brushing up on old skills may have to do a bit more looking. There are several nationally accredited online schools that offer degrees in everything from computer programming to medical accounting. These resources are best located online.

The truth is, finding an online school is a process, not unlike finding a traditional college or university. Online schools have guidance councilors and admissions processes, offering students who are interested in attending their online schools the opportunity to talk with someone and make sure that they will be a good fit.

Students who are looking for online classes are encouraged to spend the time to ensure that the institution they are planning on studying at is accredited. In other words, make sure the degree or certification you are working towards will have a real value in the work place.

Finding an online class is really a simple matter of sitting down at the computer and looking.

Then many different types of online classes that students can choose from. Each of these different types of courses have advantages and disadvantages. Students are encouraged to spend some time understanding the various forms of online learning before taking a class themselves.

The first form of online courses is live learning. This type is often referred to as synchronous e-learning. This may be the most popular form. It is based on the premise that all participants, including professors or teachers, have access to the same information in real time. A great example of this type of online course is a virtual classroom. Students are particularly drawn to this type of online learning because of their ability to receive instantaneous feedback on their performance. Unfortunately, students who choose a live online learning format do not have the ability to self-pace their learning.

Next is Asynchronous online learning. It is also called ‘store and forward’ online learning. Under this online course format communication is not instantaneous. This is the format used by most self-paced classes. These courses rely heavily on email and discussion board technologies to facilitate communication. Some student’s dislike the inherent ‘disconnect’ that this type of learning promotes.

Perhaps the best option is a blended form of learning. Students who utilize this format of online learning participate in ‘live’ lectures, online tutorials and peer-to-peer online discussions and emails in order to more fully grasp course materials.

At the end of the day, online courses work best for students who are comfortable with the format they take and the technology they use. Because of this, it is important that all students considering an online course take the time to examine the options available to them.

Online courses are the ‘it’ mode of education right now and that is unlikely to change.

It wasn’t too long ago education consisted of one room schoolrooms complete of gender segregation, slate’s and a dunce cap. Luckily time and Technology has changed the way we educate our children. Today teachers blend technology with common sense to create a unique learning environment, one that has helped create a new of students who are hungry for knowledge.

Modern education has actually changed in several ways. The biggest change is likely the most recent – the addition of technology to the classroom. Teachers are blending technology in several ways. The most obvious is, of course, the online class. It is important to note that there are other ways to integrate technology into the classroom. These include computer presentations, online resources and online testing. Technology has also changed the way that students communicate with their professors.

Modern education has also changed when it comes to the socialization of our children. Think back to that one room school house, with students separated by gender. Our administrators came to their senses and integrated classes more fully; however, recently some schools are making a change back to gender specific classes – it seems that at least some teaching methodologies are making a full circle.

Modern education will continue to evolve as technology continues to develop. One much anticipated change may very well be a complete evolution from traditional textbooks to electronic textbooks. The advent of eBook readers is making this more and more likely.

It is also likely that students will continue to have more access to online classes. Today these are popular at the college level and for home schooled students but tomorrow – who knows, all students may spend at least part of their educational career taking online classes.

Modern technology is a far cry from the education of yesteryear and it is likely to be nothing like the education of tomorrow.

Not too long ago, the only way to get an advanced degree was to go to a traditional brick-and-mortar university. Although this worked for the majority of students, it wasn’t for everyone. Because some students had already started a family or needed to work to pay their own bills, attending classes on a schedule could be difficult, if not impossible. Let’s take a look at how technology has made it possible for many students to attend college.

The Ultimate Convenience

If you have to work to support yourself after you graduate from high school, college can seem like a pipe dream. With a full-time job, who has time to go to school and sit behind a desk? If you enter an online degree program, this is no longer a problem. You’ll be able to attend classes whenever and wherever you want! If you have access to a computer during breaks at work, you could even put in a little time then. With online degrees, you won’t have to worry about your work schedule, daycare, or any other issues with family responsibilities.

Decreased Cost

For many recent high-school graduates, they would love to attend college if they could afford it. Luckily, it’s easy to earn one of the many online degrees at a fraction of the cost of attending a traditional university. Not only do you save on tuition, but you also save on room, board, and transportation costs! This is one of the primary reasons that online degree programs allow many high school students to attend college when they would not otherwise be able to even consider higher education.

If you’ve chosen to give up your dream of a higher education because of money or other responsibilities, don’t make any hasty decisions! An online degree program may be your answer. The key to a bright future is often a good education. Don’t give up on yours!

Online testing is a fast growing field in the world of education. While online testing, which used to be something rarely seen, has continued to grow many are still not taking advantage of this unique technology. Online testing is now available for more than just the big tests; in fact, today online testing is available for all students and all teachers at every level of education.

One of the neatest parts of online testing are the wide range of companies that have developed services aimed at making online testing easier and more accessible. They offer several different services. Teachers need to take the time to educate themselves on the availability of online testing services.

For example, several companies offer teachers the ability to create tests online. These tests can be used for online students or for traditional students. They offer teachers the ability to create tests which are challenging but still simple to grade. After all online tests are corrected and graded by the service.

Many colleges and universities are turning to online testing to facilitate course wide testing. In this instance, professors and administrators work together to create standardized online tests. Again this makes giving the test and grading it much easier.

Many students prefer online tests. This is because of several reasons. First, online tests typically allow students a time period in which to complete test. The added flexibility is helpful for students with large class loads. Second, students appreciate the fact that while some online test our timed the relaxed environment allows students the ability to take the test with less stress and pressure.

This method of online testing has not yet become standard. It is likely as technology continues to grow that more teachers and professors will turn to online testing for all of their testing needs.

Many students are finding it necessary to develop a program of higher education based on online study options. Luckily, today’s students have access to a wide range of online study options that make obtaining an online degree, any degree really, much easier and effective. Understanding what options the student has available to them for online study is all it takes to decide what options will be most effective.

Most online education programs utilize a type of virtual classroom. This isn’t a spot for fancy holograms or avatars; instead it is a place where technology meets the world of education allowing students access to a quality education in spite of their circumstances.

Online study options work particularly well for those who are unable to participate in a traditional college classroom setting. This applies to students who work fulltime, who are too far to commute or simply need a flexible schedule. Online study options allow students to experience a quality college education from the comfort of their own home.

To start online studying begins by deciding what area you wish to study. Most online colleges or traditional colleges with online study programs, offer students access to a wide variety of programs in which to study. No longer are students held back by a limited amount of classes or degrees. Today’s online students can obtain their associate’s degree in a variety of subjects, continue their education to receive a bachelor’s and even work towards their master’s degree.

Online study options have solved one of the largest problems faced by students interested in higher education. They address the issue of time management that flexibility. Because of advances in online technology and the format of online classes students who choose to take them can obtain a first rate college education without ever leaving their home.

Students are lucky. Today they have access to a large number of online learning resources which make successfully completing high school and college not only possible but far easier than ever before. The only problem is that many people don’t understand just how many resources are available to them or how to access them. Taking a few minutes to review online learning resources available from your learning institution, tutoring services or peer groups can help better prepare students for successful completion of your classes.

The first set of online learning resources available to students is typically offered through their high school or college. Most learning institution today have developed above the average online sources to assist their students. These resources often include peer tutoring services, access to lecture notes and presentations and easy access to teachers or professors. Students are encouraged to take the time to understand what their school offers and how to access it.

Students also traditionally have access to online tutoring services. While these online tutoring services were designed for high school students today there are online services available for college students as well. These online learning resources generally require the student pays a fee but it does give them access to qualified teachers and tutors who are able to assist them with homework, research or test preparation.

Finally students have access to an additional online learning resource in the form of peer assistance. Forums and discussion boards are available which allow students to discuss class work with students from across the world. This form of peer tutoring can be especially helpful.

Online learning resources offer students a big arsenal of tools that, when used properly, can be used to create a successful learning environment making it all the more likely that a student will succeed in their classes.

Students who are interested in retraining, those looking for assistance with tutoring and those looking to fit college into their busy schedules are finding an answer in online classes. It wasn’t too long ago that distance courses covered only a very few select subjects. It was impossible to get a degree online. Today there are 100’s of online courses and subjects for students to choose from.

Depending on the educational institution you select, it is possible to do everything from take basic core classes to classes designed to teach more advanced subjects. The content and curriculum of these classes has been developed to meet industry standards. Teachers, professors and other instructors are certified to teach and qualified to assist you with your educational goals.

Online courses run the gamete from those designed to teach home school elementary and high school students to graduate level classes. Other subjects include test preparation and elective classes such as photography and creative writing. No longer are students who choose to learn via online classes available to only to a select few.

This wide variety of classes is available because of the technology that it now used to teach online classes. Interactive technology such as forums, email, announcements and discussion boards are used to facilitate learning. Personal instruction is available via chat. Assignments are made simpler to follow and track via automated forms. Multi-media is utilized for instructional purposes as well. Technology has literally exploded online learning.

It is now possible for a student to start, work and finish a degree – completely online. Subject that are covered by online instruction include legal studies, science, special education, music, art, teaching, writing, psychology, math and much, much more.

Online learning can make getting a degree more economical. It can make getting tutoring help as simple as logging onto the internet. It is the wave of the future.

We all know that technology has changed just about everything in our lives. Nowhere is this more evident than in the way we communicate, share information and learn. One of the greatest changes has been to the education world. From computers and technology in the classroom to online learning our students are being challenged in a variety of ways all based on technology. For students who choose to learn online there are a variety of learning techniques available to help them successfully complete an online course. Learning which technique suits a student best is important before a student begins an online class.

Online learning does compare to traditional learning in that some students learn via listening, others by following and still others by doing. Imagine the traditional math class. Some students learn simply by listening to the teacher explain a new concept, others learn by viewing an example and finally, some students must complete a problem themselves in order to grasp the concept. This same idea applies to online learning.

In an online class students are given a variety of materials aimed at teaching them a new idea or concept. This material may be in the form of audible lectures, reading resources and diagrams or examples. Students must develop a program of learning that allows them to grasp the material covered by these resources in spite of their learning preference.

Many students find it necessary to change the way they process information. A student who traditionally relies on listening in order to learn may need to develop stronger reading and analyzing skills. Regardless students must learn to make technology work for them instead of against them.

Online learning skills are different for almost every student. From self motivation to self scheduling, every aspect of online learning is dictated by the melding of technology and the student.

We do not often consider how online classes have affected the way teachers teach. The truth is technology and the growing popularity of online classes has forced teachers to reevaluate the material they use, the teaching techniques they favor and the way their students grasp the material. Online teaching techniques are closely related to traditional teaching methods; however, like anything, technology has meant making slight changes and learning to integrate technology and teaching.

Many classes, whether math, history or zoology, rely heavily on the spoken word and online classes are at a slight disadvantage because of this. While teachers have the option of including audio files or even videos many do not opt to include these. This presents a problem in that teachers must discover a way to create written presentations and slide shows that adequately present new information and concepts in a way that student will grasp.

Unfortunately even the best developed slide show and presentation cannot adequately judge the reaction of students. In a traditional classroom teachers can rely on clues from their students to judge how they are grasping a new idea. Technology has been implemented to assist online teachers in this area as well. Teachers who integrate forums and discussion boards often have a better understanding of how well their students are responding.

When you think about it online teaching techniques are really nothing more than developing more effective communication with students. Presentations must be more exciting, visually stimulating and informative. Reading material should be clear, concise and the most representative of a particular idea or concept. Technology in the form of emails, instant messages, discussion boards and web cams should be used to their full advantage.

More and more students are turning to the Internet for education in teachers must rise to the occasion by developing techniques that allow them to teach effectively online.

Online classes have created a new world of responsibility for students many of whom are not prepared to handle it. Online classes are available for just about every age group including elementary students who are home schooled, high school students taking advanced classes and college students. Each one of these age groups often struggles with responsibility in their own way. In order for online classes to be effective students must develop a responsible attitude towards their learning objectives.

Let’s be honest here, until a student learns responsibility they have none. In fact I think it is safe to say that most students rely heavily on the constant presence of teachers or professors to remind them of assignments, deadlines and upcoming exams. Think about your typical college freshman. Many have a difficult time keeping track of their schedule to let alone assignments, due dates and reading materials. Online courses can make this problem more difficult.

This difficulty stems from two different areas. The first is the self-paced nature of most online classes. Students are expected to complete assignments by deadlines but are not guided through the process. Instead a student might be told to finish a paper by a certain date and that in order to do this they must read several books, complete several studies and finish a lab. The student is not told when or how to finish these. The second problem is the way in which students learn. All students learn differently and each must learn to use technology effectively in order to assimilate new concepts, ideas and information.

The point is well the teacher may present the student with all the information and data they need it is the student’s responsibility to develop a plan which will allow them to effectively use these resources in order to learn.

Whose fault is it when a student fails a class? Many would blame the student and only the student. Others believe that technology and online classes has failed the student. In reality a failure is the result of a combination of things. In some cases it may be the teacher. The growing popularity of online classes has meant a change in traditional teacher’s responsibilities to their students.

In a traditional classroom setting a teacher is responsible for providing their students with resources, presenting information in a clear and concise way and testing their students to ensure the material has been adequately taught. These overall goals are still the responsibility of online teachers but in the online class setting teachers have additional responsibilities to their students.

These new responsibilities revolve primarily around the teacher’s ability to integrate technology into their teaching style. Teachers must take the time to learn the online system utilized by their institution. They must familiarize themselves with communication functions such as emails, assignment boards, instant messages and discussion boards. Technologies used to produce slide shows, audible content and videos are also important for the teacher to understand.

Further complicating matters is the manner in which online classes are taught. By nature they are self-paced and teachers must develop programs that allow students adequate time to finish assignments, learn new concepts and reproduce results. An important responsibility for online teachers is flexibility.

Online teachers must also recognize that office hours are not as set in stone as traditional office hours. Students have the right to expect reasonably quick responses from their teachers. Teachers should send response expectations early in the semester to ensure there are no communication issues.

Yup, technology has changed a lot and everyone, including teachers, needs to adjust to a new set of roles and responsibilities as we continue to change the way our students learn online.

If you ask an average twenty year old to define distance learning you are likely to hear a definition that more adequately represents online learning. Today’s technology savvy student might be surprised to learn that distance learning has been around for hundreds of years. Taking a few minutes to think about how far we’ve come in this field of distance learning can bring a whole new appreciation to the world of online learning.

The distance learning of yesteryear has little in common with today’s online classes. In fact a distance course was a very, very long process. Students interested in learning a foreign language, developing a knowledge of history or developing their writing skills were in for a long haul. A distance course was really a series of letters exchanged between the student and the educational institution. These courses were very popular during the 1800s primarily because many people did not have the funds or time to attend a traditional university if one was even available. Distance courses were often the only way a student had to continue their education.

Distance courses were further developed in the mid 1900s when students began to have access to certification and degree programs. These types of courses were particularly popular with students hoping to learn skills such as typing and dictation; however, courses in more advanced subjects such as small engine repair and eventually computer programming became popular.

Technologies such as the television and radio helped change the method in which students learned via a distance learning. Instead of sending letters students could listen to lectures on the radio or television. Of course the Internet vastly changed the idea of distance learning.

A student today logs onto their computer and accesses audio files, videos and slide presentations to learn. Instead of taking weeks to submit one assignment via mail online students are now learning instantly.

Anyone who has made the decision to further their education online is faced with one dilemma…which online learning website to use. As online learning has grown more and more popular the number of websites set up to provide an online learning environment has exploded. Determining which site will work best for your particular needs is often simply a matter of understanding what type of education you are looking for and what you hope to gain from it.

Students interested in a traditional four year degree have some options available to them. First, they should consider accredited colleges in their area. Many offer students a wide range of online classes to round out their schedule. It is possible to take all of your classes online. Check with your local community college or four year institution for details.

Students interested in a specific field of learning also have the option of attending one of the many completely online institutions that are available. Institutions like Kaplan and the University of Phoenix have become popular in the past decade. These institutions have a large selection of degrees available and allow students the ability to earn a four year degree without ever physically going to school. Choosing which online educational institution works best for you is a matter of reviewing degrees and course matter offered by each option and selecting the one that best matches your needs.

There are also online learning websites designed to provide tutoring to students. While some college level material is covered by these sites, in most cases the material covered on tutoring sites is geared toward the high school students.

Picking the best online learning website is often simply a matter of personal preference. Whenever possible review the tools, software and administration of a particular site. It may mean the difference between a site that works for you and one that doesn’t.

Online learning has become a popular education model over the past 15 years. As technology has evolved, so has the way that our students learn. Online education is now being pushed by almost every learning institution in the country. The benefits seem obvious, but many people do not stop to think of the downside of online learning before signing up. It is important to take some time to understand what the drawbacks of online learning are.

One of the biggest disadvantages of online learning is a lack of interaction. Part of the traditional learning experience is interaction between peers and your instructor. Because online learning also means learning alone, students who opt to take online classes miss out on this interaction.

Other students feel that learning online limits the amount of time they have with their instructor. While most college level online classes have professors with office hours, students are often left feeling like a number instead of a student.

Students who are hoping to further their career goals through further education forget one important thing they get from a traditional classroom – networking contacts. Taking an online class often means missing out on these all important contacts. The peers you meet in a traditional classroom may very well be your lead to a new or better job. It is really hard to have this interaction online.

Finally, students who take online classes are missing out on facilities such as libraries, study areas, research labs, computer labs, student stores and gyms. While many online learning programs are working hard to foster a feeling of community among their students, they do not always hit the mark.

Online classes do have some disadvantages. Understanding these potential faults can help you determine if learning online is a good fit for you. That starts with taking an honest look at the institutions.

More and more people are turning to distance learning to complete their education. College certification or degrees via online learning have become very accessible as technology such as home computers and internet access has become common place. While distance learning once used to be a cumbersome process, today’s students have access to a quality education in the comfort of their home. There are several really good reasons to learn online today.

The first is how convenient and easy it can be to learn online. Students can self-pace and do lessons at whatever time of the day is easiest for them. Lessons can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. Whether a student takes a test on a lap top in the PJ’s or finishes a paper at a favorite coffee shop, one of the biggest benefits of online learning is how convenient it is.

Online learning was designed to work for the greatest number of people. This means that those with different learning styles, those that struggle with different types of learning can find a comfortable place to learn online. The self-paced nature of online learning means that students can spend extra time on topics that they are struggling with and literally skip those they already comprehend. Online learning simply works for people.

Finally, it comes down to finances. Online learning is typically a lot less expensive that traditional learning. Students can complete degrees by spending a fraction of the money it would take at a traditional school. Those that have limited funds for education find the lower cost to be an excellent benefit.

Online learning might not work for everyone, but a lot of students simply like it better. It will be interesting to see how future technology will change online learning. We are likely to see even more classes and degrees offered online.

You may think that distance learning is a pretty new invention, but it has actually been around for more than 100 years. In fact, a popular form of learning in Europe during the 1800’s was correspondence classes. With the advent of radio and television, students were given another opportunity to learn at a distance. Today’s distance classes rely on technology such as the internet to help students learn just about anything from just about anywhere.

Distance learning is formally defined as a learning and educational model that utilizes technology to instruct students from home or some other location. Its purpose is to provide further instruction and certification or degrees to said students. The separation of instructor and student is overcome through the utilization of self-paced models and technology.

Distance learning is, as a whole, thought of as a positive thing. The model isn’t without it faults. Opponents of the current method of distance learning believe that there are technology issues as well as instructional and administrative issues. Still the biggest issue seems to be the quality of the instruction provided to the students. Because of the flexibility of the current distance learning model, many students find themselves effectively teaching themselves, using their instructor more as a resource. Opponents believe that students simply cannot receive the same quality of instruction at a distance that they would find in a traditional educational setting.

Others cite the lack of social interaction that distance learning causes. Part of the college experience is socialization. Many feel that by learning at a distance this important factor is overlooked. Team work experience is also lacking.

Distance learning is a good option for those looking to further their education while working full time. It also works well for stay-at-home mothers. Finally, home schooled students often use distance learning as a resource.

Distance learning is likely to change as our technology continues to change.

More and more students today are deciding to go a non traditional route with their schooling. Instead of going to school in a traditional high school, many are making the choice to take their high school classes online. In fact, it has become such a popular option that there are now many online high schools that allow students from virtually anywhere to attend.

You may be wondering how these online high schools function. A student will log into a class, sometime at a specific time, others when they have the opportunity. They can listen to, watch, or read a lecture, and get their homework. Many times, the homework will be completed and turned in online. Sometimes this is through a content management system that the school has set up, other times it may be through emailing the assignment to the teacher. Rarely, you may need to actually mail in your assignment.

Many classes still need text books. Some of these are available online now, and you are able to access them through the online high school. Other times, they may be mailed to you, and then at the end of the class, you need to mail the text book back to the school.

There are many reasons that families choose online schooling for their children. Many feel that it is the next step in home schooling. Others just feel that it is the next step in schooling in general. Some students feel that they are easier able to do their work, if they are able to work at their own pace, which is generally a big part of attending an online high school. Other times, it can be a religious preference or family preference not to send a child to a public high school. No matter what the reasoning is, the popularity of online high schools is growing significantly each year.

We live in a busy world. Life is always go, go, going, and it feels like there is never enough time to do everything that a person wants or needs to do on a regular basis. Because of this, it can be difficult to get in the schooling that you want to do. By the time that you are ready for college, you may find that you are already working a full time job, or possibly even multiple jobs. This can leave little time for taking the classes that you want to take.

Luckily, with the popularity of the Internet, another resource has come about. That resource in online colleges. In fact, there are a large number of colleges today that focus on online learning. These schools allow busy students the flexibility and the freedom that the so desperately need.

With an online college, you generally don’t have to worry about being in class at a certain time each day or each week. Instead, you will be able to watch or listen to lectures each week, and you will get your assignments. These will be “handed in” over the Internet.

The biggest advantage for most people that take online courses is that your schedule is not tied down. This is extremely important for parents, workers, and anyone who has a busy lifestyle. You can “attend” class, and do your school work any time you want, even if it is in the middle of the night.

Some feel that there are downsides to these schools. The biggest downside that is seen is that it can be difficult to get your questions answered, or have any sort of teacher/student relationship. This is a definite negative for many students, but others feel that this is not as much of a problem as timing is for traditional schools.

Some people feel that online classes aren’t all they are cracked up to be. There are many, on the other hand, that find them to be perfect. So, what are some reasons that a persons may feel disenchanted with their online courses?

1) Lack of communication. It can be difficult sometimes to effectively communicate with your teacher and other students when dealing with an online class. In most cases, the teachers will have “office hours” where they will have a chat time that you can talk to them, and you can usually also email, but this doesn’t always get across what you need it to.

2) Not challenging. Many feel that the majority of online classes are not challenging in the least. In fact, they can, at times, be extremely basic. This can be frustrating, if you are paying for a class, and do not feel like you are getting out of it what you are putting in. Many times, even accelerated classes suffer from this problem. Even though the class is supposed to be a full course in a shorter amount of time, it can feel like you are not getting anything out of it.

3) Lack of structure. Though these classes try to stay structured, many who have taken online classes feel that there is little, if any structure to the class. You are given assignments, and a due date, but that is about it. This can be very frustrating to students who enjoy structure in their daily lives.

For many, online courses are a life saver. For others, they are nothing but frustrating. The only way to find out which group you sit in is to take an online class and see for yourself. Just because you hear from a friend or family member that online courses were not all they were cracked up to be does not mean that you won’t find them to be amazing.

When you take a college course, you expect to be able to interact with both the professor, as well as other students. You may expect to interact with others as well, for example, a counselor, financial aide office, and more. These are normal interactions in a traditional college or university setting. If you are attending an online college, though, you may find that these normal interactions vary slightly, or are almost completely gone.

For many students, it can be quite shocking to realize that communication with all of these people is going to be completely different. Instead of walking into your professor’s office, you may find that you need to email them your questions. This can get frustrating, because you may then need to wait on a reply to finish your homework, or continue with a project. Sometimes, this answer can be days in coming.

When working with other students, you will find that you usually have to converse over email or a chat system online. This can be just as frustrating, especially if you are working on a group project. Some have found that it is harder to do group projects through online courses, simply because many are less likely to get their part of the project done. This can hurt the grades of the rest of the group, and lead to overall frustration.

Communication on the Internet is, of course, evolving greatly. Many do not feel that it is nearly up to par with personal communication, though. Being able to talk with someone face to face is a much better option for many students. If this is the case with you, you may find frustration with online classes. Being limited to online communication if there is a problem can be slow and clunky, and this may not be ideal for you as a student.

There are many types of tests and exams that you can take on the Internet now. In fact, you can find at least practice tests for almost any large test or exam that you can think of. No matter if you are looking to take the test itself online, or just find a great practice test, you will find what you are looking for on the Internet.

Fun tests

There are, of course, fun tests that you can take online. Personality tests, IQ tests, and a myriad of other types of tests that you can take for the fun of it. You can find these all over the internet, in a variety of different styles. If you are wanting to find out what Greek god you were in a past like, you can find this. If you are looking for an indicator of your IQ, there are tests that are in depth, and some that only have a few questions.

Important tests

You can find practice tests for almost anything. Even though you will have to go into a testing office to take your actual GED test, you can take practice tests online to get you ready. There are also things like SAT and ACT prep courses and test that you can take online.

Some schools offer their testing online. In some cases, you need to be in the school’s testing center to access the test, while other times, you may be able to access it from your home computer. If you have a test that is available online, you will need to find out which way you need to take it.

Testing online is something that many schools are moving toward. Some feel that the bigger tests have no place on the internet, because of the possibility of cheating, while others feel that online testing is the best and easiest way to go.

To be a good student, no matter the classroom setting, takes some very obvious skills and thought processes. You need to want to be a good student. You need to work at it, and do what you are taught. Being a good student takes more than getting good grades, in most cases. You need to be engaged in what is going on, and interested in it, as well.

Being a good student when taking online courses requires a whole new set of skills. There are a lot of things that are different when you are taking online classes, rather than classes in a classroom.

For example, you will need to be much more focused on what you are doing, and you have to be self motivated. Since there is not a set time to meet for your classes when taking an online course, you will have to make sure that you still do your homework and listen to the lectures. There is no one there to tell you that you need to have your homework in by a certain day. It is up to you to make sure that you do it.

For many people, a big part of being a good online student is making the time, and taking the effort to get things done. This can be stressful for some. In fact, many people are taking online classes because they don’t have the time for a regular class. Being able to discipline yourself is one of the biggest hurdles that most people have to face when starting an online class for the first time.

Another big part of being a good student, no matter the classroom setting, is good communication. Communication can be a little more difficult in an online class, but making sure that you talk with your professor, even if it is through an email, is important.

More and more schools are offering online classes today, and many of them are changing things so that you can get your entire degree online, instead of having to go into the school. There are some degrees that are now commonly able to be gotten online, while others are still just barely making it to the Internet.

Graphic Design

This is a degree that many, many schools offer online now. It makes sense, since the whole point of the degree is to be able to use the computer to make art. The classes that are generally required are easily done online. Because of this, many schools that offer a graphic design degree are now offering it online. In fact, some schools only offer this degree online. Therefore, if you want to take it, you will not have any classes in the school.

Accounting

Many schools are also making their accounting degrees online only. This is simply because the classes that are required are easily taken on the Internet. Schools are finding that offering classes like these only online, they are able to save a little more money.

Nursing

A large number of schools are now offering nursing degrees through their online programs. Along with this, there are other health care related offerings, such as health care administration and radiology. Sometimes, you may need to come into the school on occasion for things like labs, but in general, these are offered online.

There are colleges today that are solely online campuses. There are others that are traditional colleges and universities that offer their classes online. Some degrees are offered completely online, while for some, you may need to come in for certain classes. Either way you go, you will find that you can generally get your degree through a majority, or completely through online classes.

Though many people don’t think about it, there has been a long history of distance learning. It started out many, many years ago, with mail order learning. You could take a class, or classes, though distance learning. It took a while, though, because you would have to write back and forth, and depend on the post office to get your information back and forth. This worked for some people, who did not want or need their degree or class finished in a timely manner. The professor would let you know, in a letter, what you needed to do for the class. You would generally get a text book, or information on how to receive the text book, as well. Once you completed an assignment, it was then sent back to the professor for grading. After this, it would be sent back to you. You can see how thing would get to be a long, complicated process.

Today, the technology has grown. We now have access to the Internet, which allows distance learning to be much quicker and easier. In fact, many classes that you can take online are now completed much quicker than in a traditional college or university. Students are frequently allowed, if not encouraged, to work at their own pace, and this results in faster classes a lot of the time.

The principle behind distance learning has not changed. You still do not generally attend the brick and mortar school, and communication with the teacher is a little more limited. However, the classes that are offered have become much more broad, and the ability to do distance learning has become much more common. In fact, today, most colleges and universities offer at least a portion of their classes online. Even some high schools are now offering online classes.

We all know that the Internet is a helpful tool. Many people use it on a regular, daily basis. Some use the Internet almost all the time – you can work online, go to school online, and even socialize online. So, with the Internet being so popular, it is no surprise that it has allowed education to become much improved.

Because the Internet is an ever moving and changing thing, there are many things that we are relying on it for now. For example, we can get up to the second information on the news, weather, and many other important factors in our lives. Because of this, things like scientific discoveries can be discussed in a classroom setting the same day that they happen, rather than month, or sometimes even years, later.

On top of this, it has become much easier for students to do their homework. If you have a paper that you have to write on a historical figure, you now have much more information at your finger tips about that person that you ever would have in the past. The information is quick and easy to get, as well. Because of this, many students are doing better in school.

Of course, some people are concerned with using the Internet for education. They feel that it makes it much easier for students to cheat than ever before. In some cases, this may be true. Unfortunately, though, it has always been the case that if a student is going to cheat, they will find a way to do it. Even though it may have become easier with the advent of the Internet, the information has always been around.

So, even though there are some concerns, it is hard to dispute that having access to the Internet has improved the availability and quality of education. As more time goes by, it is expected that this will continue to develop as it has so far.

When taking an online class, you may find that you are doing things that you never even though of before. Submitting assignments through a content management system, uploading files to your professor, and chatting with people from around the world are just a few examples of things that may become common place when you decide to take an online course.

One of the things that many people are uncomfortable with at first, is video chatting. Though this is not something that is always required with online classes, it is something that some professors might require. Having a video chat with your professor can be a little unnerving. Many, though, see it as very similar to having a face to face conference with your professor.

So, why might you find yourself in a video chat with the professor of your online class? There are a few reasons that this may happen.

First, you may be struggling. If you need a little extra help, sometimes it is easier to get this face to face. Your professor may also do a screen share with you in this case, allowing them to see your computer screen, or you to see theirs. Either way, this will allow them to help you much easier.

You may have concerns about the class. Generally this can be taken care of through an email, or sometimes a phone call. Other times, the teacher would prefer to have a video conference. Either way, airing any problems that you feel are happening with the class is important.

Your professor may just want to get to know the students a little better. This could result in video conferences with everyone in the class. Though this is something that you may or may not consider a productive way to spend your time, it is something that may be required or requested.

You have decided that you want to go back to school. Maybe you want to finish a degree that you never quite finished up, or you may have found that you want to have a change in your life, and going back to college is one way to make that change. Either way, you have started the hunt. Not only do you need to decide what school to go to, but you also need to decide what you want to go for.

For many degrees today, you can choose to go to an online school. Schools like DeVry and Steven’s Henegar, as well as the University of Phoenix, offer many degrees online. This seems like a great option for many people. If you have a very busy life style, it can be the perfect fit.

Before you make the jump to an online school, though, you may want to look at all of your options and the costs that are associated with them. Compare how much money it will cost you to get your degree at these online schools, compared to a more traditional college or university. You may find that the degree that you want to get is also available online through a local university, as well.

On top of this, compare the time that you will spend. If you go into a classroom, you will be spending more time, in general, on the degree. Online classes tend to get you through the degree a little bit faster. You also don’t have to worry about drive time, and sitting through a lecture each week. So, the time spent in class is much more minimal in an online setting than a traditional setting.

Once you have made the comparisons, figure out which option is best for you. There is no right or wrong with this. Each person has their own priorities, and finding the best schooling fit for you is important.

Many people today are turning to online education. There are many reasons that people are going digital, even with their education. In fact, it is said that there are as many reasons as there are people. Even though this may be true, there are some basic reasons that drive most people to deciding to further their education through an online college.

It’s Faster

Many of the online schools are becoming popular because they are said to be faster than going to a traditional school. You can generally get your two year degree in much less time than that, because the courses are accelerated. Many times you are able to work at your own pace, as well, which can speed things up significantly.

It’s Easier

If you have a busy schedule, you may find that going to an online school is much, much easier. Instead of having to work around a school schedule, a work schedule, family, friends, and more, you will find that you can take your class time whenever you have time. This is important for many who are considering a furthered education.

It Gives You What You Need

You will find that you can get many of the degrees that you might be interested in, online. Therefore, you are able to find what you want, and get started on it when you want to. Many times, you don’t have to wait until spring or fall semester starts – many online schools allow you to start in the next module, which is usually a month or two long.

Many different types of people are turning to online education today. With everyone from stay at home moms to business executives, you will find that your classmates come from all corners of the world, and all different sorts of backgrounds when you choose an online school.

You may find, when you go back to school, that you have to work with others frequently. Maybe you are putting together a study group, joining a study group, or have to work on a group project with other class members. No matter the reason, you will quickly find that everyone has their own way of communicating. One thing that is difficult for some, but easily picked up by others, is working in a study group or on a group project through the Internet.

This is most especially frustrating for those that go to a traditional brick and mortar university or college. You may expect that, since you interact with the other students on a regular basis, that there is no need to work on a project or conduct a study group over the Internet.

One thing to keep in mind with this is that everyone’s schedule is completely different. You may have the time to get together each week, but you may find that the rest of the group does not have this time. Instead, you may find yourself emailing to talk. Or, you might use a chat program, which allows communication a little quicker and easier for most.

When working with a group through the Internet, it is important that you, and everyone else in the group, are able to communicate effectively through the Internet. Unfortunately, if this is not the case, then there will be problems with the study group. If it is a group project, and someone in the group can not communicate effectively, it is likely that parts of the project will not come together correctly.

Many people are using the Internet today for many reasons. Communication and education are two of those reasons, and when you put them together like this, it can be frustrating to deal with, but it is a great option for many people.

Whether your classes are online, or you are just heading to the Internet to get information for your homework, you will find that there are some very valuable resources. Online resources have become extremely popular, because of the needs that they cover. There are many options for getting your information and help online, and some of these are considered legitimate, while others are not.

For example, Wikipedia.com is a website that offers a lot of good information on almost any subject that you can think of. Many times, though, when you have an assignment, it may say specifically that you can not site Wikipedia as your source. You may be wondering why, exactly, this is not considered a credible source. Wikipedia is a place that anyone can go and edit and add information. So, even though the information that you find for your class may be accurate, you can not site Wikipedia as the source. Since this information can be edited by anyone, and at any time, many teachers and professors have concerns about allowing this as a credible source.

There are also many options for getting credible, siteable sources. Many newspapers and magazines are now available on the Internet. So, if you are writing a paper about a medical procedure that is currently being tested, for example, you may want to check out medical journals. Many of these are easily findable on the Internet, and even better, many of them are free. If they are not free, you can sometimes find other websites that quote from the journals, that you can then site.

There are so many options online for learning and for help with assignments that you may have. Make sure that you are getting your information from a credible source before citing it, though. This is very important to most teachers.

As you are going through your classes, headed toward the degree that you have been working toward, you may find a little bit of a bump. This bump most definitely may not be a bad thing, but it can be a stumbling block for some. You may find that you have to take a class or two in a different way than normal. What exactly is meant by this?

You may have been working on your degree through a local college, but your classes have all been online. All of a sudden, you find out that one of your classes has to be taken at the college itself. This can be frustrating for some people. You may have an extremely busy schedule, or work through the day, and not have time to take a class. Unfortunately, in this situation you may find yourself in, you may have to work around your schedule, to complete your degree.

Or, you might be going the other way. You have been working on your degree this whole time through the college, going and sitting in on lectures, talking to professors, and working around your schedule. All of a sudden, you find that the next class you need is only offered online. In many cases, this is seen as the easier of the two situations, but it is not for everyone. For example, what if you don’t have Internet access at home? Sure, you can come into the college for your class, but you may feel that you don’t want to if the class is online. Or, you may not be as comfortable with online classes as others.

Either way, this can be seen as a bump or a stumbling block. If you are completely uncomfortable with your options, or don’t see a way that they can be taken care of, you may want to talk to your counselor. Otherwise, take it as a learning experience, and have some fun!

There are many schools today that offer you the ability to get your degree quickly, and online. Many of these schools are actually for profit schools. They tend to charge a little bit more than you may find other schools charging for the same degree. On the other hand, you are generally able to get that degree quicker than you would at a more traditional school.

Many of these schools have come under close scrutiny lately, though. It has been said that they have deceptive recruiting practices, and that there are a whole slew of problems that they cause for many people. Many states have to deal with complaints about these schools on a regular basis, and it has become such a problem, that there has actually been legislation on for profit schools recently.

Because of some of the scrutiny that these schools have been under lately, many feel that they should be limited in the amount of federal loans that they have access to. This could significantly hurt these schools, because they would then have a huge decrease in the amount of students that attend. It is felt by many that these schools take advantage of, and target those, who can not afford to pay for school very easily. On top of this, they charge more than most traditional colleges or universities. This makes it so that the students end up in a lot of debt, for an education that, many feel, is sub par.

Whether or not the education itself is sub par is debatable. Some feel that the education is very good, and that it, in fact, is better than you could get else where. Others feel that they were ripped off after attending one of these for profit schools. Either way, these schools are still under deep scrutiny for the time being.

Many parents today want to help give their child a leg up when it comes to their schooling and education. There are many ways to do this, and many parents are choosing to head to the Internet to help their children with their education.

There are many classes, courses, and educational options for children today. You can help your child learn to read and spell through online classes and games. In most cases, these “classes” consist of videos and games, at least until the child is older. For younger children, though, these videos and games can be a big help.

Many parents find that if they allow their children to play these educational games and watch these movies, it will help instill in them a fondness for education. Many children love to play games, so in a lot of cases, they do not even realize that they are learning something new. Once they do learn it, though, it is likely to stick with them.

Other times, parents feel that putting their children in front of a computer screen at a young age instills bad habits in the child. They do not think that these games, even if they are educational, will benefit their children any more than putting the child in front of a book. In fact, those that feel this way feel that their child will be much better served by being put in front of a book.

No matter what side of the debate you are on, it is easy to see that using the Internet for education is a growing trend. There are many options for those that choose to move their child ahead through the Internet. Between games, movies, and more, many children are using the computer at a younger age than ever before to start learning.
